Meet Cyan
ASCHP Specialist Wellness Counsellor | MSc in Psychology
A little about who I am, my journey into counselling and the approach I bring to my work.
Who I Am
I’m Cyan, an ASCHP Specialist Wellness Counsellor with an MSc in Psychology from the University of Portsmouth (UK). I’m naturally approachable, calm and easy to talk to, and I value creating a space where people feel comfortable being themselves and talking openly about what they are going through.
I believe people need to be understood as individuals, rather than fitted into a particular mould. I aim to offer a supportive space where we can make sense of what feels difficult, build confidence and develop practical ways of navigating life’s challenges.
A Personal Approach to Counselling
I believe counselling should be personal, collaborative and tailored to the individual. Everyone brings their own experiences, circumstances and ways of understanding the world, so I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
I take the time to listen and understand what is happening in your life and what feels important to you. Where appropriate, I may draw on gentle, evidence-informed techniques and practical tools to support you in developing new ways of thinking, coping and navigating challenges.
My role is not to fix you or tell you what you should do. Instead, I'm here to support you as you develop greater understanding, confidence and ways of coping that feel right for you.
My Journey & Experience
My counselling journey has grown through both academic training and practical experience. I began by spending time alongside an experienced counsellor, learning from her approach before moving into my own role as a school counsellor.
Working with children and teenagers, while also supporting parents, teachers, and other professionals, showed me how much young people can carry and how valuable it is to have someone who listens without judgement and helps difficult experiences feel more manageable.
Over time, I have also supported adults through a range of personal and emotional challenges, including grief, loss and difficult life circumstances. Working alongside other professionals, including social workers, has given me experience of supporting people and families through more complex situations.
These experiences have shaped the counsellor I am today. They have taught me the importance of patience, empathy, and careful listening, while recognising that every person and situation is different. I bring that understanding into my work by meeting each person where they are and creating space for them to feel heard, understood and supported.
About Me
Outside of counselling, I have a strong connection with nature and horses. I have taught horse riding for nearly three years, an experience that has taught me a great deal about patience, communication, trust and meeting each individual where they are.
I value the calm and grounding that nature can bring, and these are qualities I hope to bring into the spaces where I work. In time, I also hope to incorporate my experience with horses into my counselling practice through equine-assisted therapy.
